Around 40 scientists working on a range of impacts due to climate change gathered at the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) to inform, brainstorm, and exchange ideas. The Workshop on High-Risk Cascading Shocks, organized by members of the Safe Landing Climates Lighthouse Activity of WCRP, took place from 18 to 20 November, 2024. The enthusiasm among the participants was palpable as they worked together on forming a forward-looking agenda for their work in the coming years.

Laura Suarez-Gutierrez, postdoctoral researcher at ETH Zurich and an organizer of the workshop said, "High-risk extremes are becoming ever more prevalent. The most devastating events cause impacts across multiple systems and sectors, ranging from ecosystem collapse to food price shocks and famine. To understand these cascading impacts, events like this workshop on High-risk Cascading Shocks are key, because they bring relevant communities together to produce an agenda-setting plan of action of how to best assess climate risk."
