We are excited to announce an upcoming event on coral reefs in the AIMES, Earth Commission, Future Earth, and WCRP Safe Landing Climates Lighthouse Activity Discussion Series: Tipping elements, irreversibility, and abrupt change in the Earth system. The event includes two presentations on the potential tipping of coral reefs and related impacts on ocean ecosystems:
- David Obura (Founding Director of CORDIO East Africa): How close are we to coral reefs tipping?
- Joanie Kleypas (National Center for Atmospheric Research): Can we avoid or delay the tipping point for coral reefs?
The event will take place on 20 October, 15:30 CEST. Registration is free, but we ask you to register on the Tipping Points Discussion Series website.
Note that in November we will also host an event in the series on 'Cloud feedbacks and atmospheric dynamics' - now also open for registration.
