The WCRP Safe Landing Climates Lighthouse Activity is an exploration of the routes to “safe landing” spaces for human and natural systems. It will explore future pathways that avoid dangerous climate change while at the same time contributing to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Lighthouse Activity will focus on five main scientific themes:

  • Safe landing pathways
  • Understanding high-risk events
  • Perturbed carbon cycle
  • Water resources
  • Sea level rise

The WCRP Safe Landing Climates Lighthouse Activity invites interested researchers to nominate themselves for Working Groups addressing these five themes (see the Safe Landing Climates webpages for more information on each theme).

Responsibilities

This call is for two types of Working Group membership:

  1. Working Group Membership - Contributing scientific knowledge and experience to meet the objectives and proposed outcomes of the Working Group, working with other members of the Working Group, the Lighthouse Activity Steering Group, other WCRP activities, and partners, as necessary. Meetings are expected to take place every four to six weeks, but this is at the discretion of the Working Group leads. There may be times when there is more or less work, depending on the activities undertaken (e.g., a peak period may be associated with a workshop or paper published by the Working Group). Many meetings will be online, with some out-of-hours working required due to time zone coordination.
  2. Affiliate Working Group Membership - Contribute to the working group several times a year via meetings, workshops, or similar.

More information on the provisional Lighthouse Structure and Membership is available here
