ICSU ISSC merger vote taipei

The International Council for Science (ICSU) has been one of the two founding co-sponsors of WCRP (together with the World Meteorological Organization, WMO, and from 1993 also with co-sponsorship by the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission, IOC, of UNESCO).

Today, on 26 October 2017, members of the International Council for Science (ICSU) and the International Social Science Council (ISSC) have officially voted to merge both councils into a single global entity called the International Science Council.

The agreement took place at a landmark joint meeting in Taipei of the International Council for Science (ICSU) and the International Social Science Council (ISSC), with members voting overwhelmingly in favor of such a merger.

The new International Science Council brings together the current members of ISSC and ICSU, including 40 international scientific unions and associations, and more than 140 national and regional organizations such as academies and research councils.
