The City of Edmonton, Canada has been announced as host city for the 2018 Cities and Climate Change Science Conference, endorsed and co-sponsored by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). The Conference is planned for 5-7 March 2018 and will bring together representatives from academia, scientific agencies, concerned member states of the United Nations, cities and regional governments, and urban and climate change practitioners. The main aim of the conference is to stimulate scientific research on cities and climate change to provide input into future climate assessments. In addition to the City of Edmonton and the IPCC, key partners of the 2018 Cities and Climate Change Science Conference include the Cities Alliance, C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group, ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability, United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG), Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN), UN-Habitat, UN Environment, Future Earth and the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP). The role of WCRP will be to represent and promote fundamental science in the planning and delivery of the conference, with WCRP Joint Scientific Committee Member Helen Cleugh on the conference’s Scientific Steering Committee and WCRP Joint Planning Staff Senior Scientific Officer Boram Lee on the Conference Organising Committee.
