In May 2018, early career researchers came together for the Young Earth System Scientists—Young Hydrologic Society (YESS-YHS) Workshop, supported by WCRP, the World Weather Research Programme (WWRP), the Global Atmospheric Watch (GAW) and the Climate and Water Department (CLW) of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and held conjointly with the GEWEX Open Science Conference. An outcome of that workshop is a paper published in Frontiers of Environmental Science, which presents an early career perspective on major challenges and opportunities that arise in the study, the understanding, and the provision of regional information for climate, weather, and hydrological extreme events.
