Following on from the first event in this discussion series, where the topic of tipping elements, irreversibility, and abrupt change in the Earth system was introduced (video here), we now present an event focused on the role of the Amazon. The event will take place on 29 November 2021, 17:00-18:30 CET. Note that a second event focusing on ice sheets is also open for registration

The event will include two excellent talks:

  • Is the Amazon Rainforest near a Tipping Point? – Carlos Nobre
  • Amazon Forest dieback in CMIP6 Earth System Models – Peter Cox

The talks will be followed by 20 minutes of formal discussions and, for those who wish to stay on, a further 25 minutes of informal discussions on the topic.

This discussion series is a joint activity of Analysis, Integration, and Modeling of the Earth System (AIMES), the Earth Commission, and the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP) Safe Landing Climates Lighthouse Activity.

For more information and to register please see our registration page.

The event will be recorded.
