The World Climate Research Programme (WCRP) is developing a new strategic plan, covering a 10-year time horizon (2019-2028). After extensive consultation and consideration of the external Review of WCRP in 2018, chaired by Professor Dame Julia Slingo, the Strategic Plan is now in the final draft stage awaiting approval from WCRP's sponsors, the World Meteorological Organization, the International Science Council and the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO.
Please note that the WCRP Strategic Plan addresses long-term, high-level goals. The possible new structure of WCRP and other detailed organizational issues will be considered as part of the WCRP Implementation Plan. The WCRP Implementation Plan will outline how the Strategic Plan will be achieved - a roadmap for the transition to a Programme that is equipped to meet the ongoing challenges of the future. Development of the WCRP Implementation Plan is scheduled for 2019.
