WCRP is delighted to welcome six new Joint Scientific Committee (JSC) members. The JSC is the highest-level committee of WCRP and provides scientific guidance on all aspects of the Programme, in harmony with the overall aims and interests of the sponsoring organizations (WMO, IOC-UNESCO and ISC). The new JSC members will begin their term on 1 January 2026.

René GARREAUD
René Garreaud is a Full Professor of the Department of Geophysics, University of Chile, and Deputy Director of the Center sof Excellence for Climate and Resilience Research (CR2). Prof. Garreaud's expertise is in climate dynamics, climate change, and synoptic meteorology, focusing on South America. His dedication to the field extends to training new scientists, supervising post-doctoral students, Master students, and doctoral students. He also imparts his knowledge by teaching various climate, meteorology, and physics courses for undergraduate and graduate students at the Faculty of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, University of Chile.

Valérie MASSON-DELMOTTE
Known in France and around the world as one of the leading climate scientists involved with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), where she co-chaired Working Group I from 2015 to 2023, Valérie Masson-Delmotte is CEA senior scientist (research director) at the Laboratory of Climate and Environmental Sciences (CEA/CNRS/University of Versailles Saint-Quentin) and head of the Climate Society Center at Institut Pierre Simon Laplace. She is a member of the French Academy of Science and Academy of Technology. She is very active in advancing climate sciences and informing the general public and leaders.

Amanda MAYCOCK
Professor Amanda Maycock is Joint Chair of the Met Office Academic Partnership at the University of Leeds and Professor in Climate Dynamics in the Institute for Climate and Atmospheric Science. Her research investigates mechanisms for global and regional climate variability and trends spanning subseasonal to decadal timescales. She served as co-chair of the WCRP APARC core project between 2021-2025. Amanda was Lead Author of the IPCC Sixth Assessment Report, Coordinating Lead Author for the 2018 and 2026 WMO/UNEP Scientific Assessments of Ozone Depletion, and co-author of the 4th UK Climate Change Risk Assessment. She serves on the Advisory Board of the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence in 21st Century Weather.

Katrin MEISSNER
Professor Katrin Meissner is Director of the Climate Change Research Centre, University of New South Wales, Australia and an Associate Investigator of the Australian Research Council's Centre of Excellence for Climate Extremes. She is interested in abrupt climate change events as well as thresholds and feedbacks in the climate system. She uses Earth System Climate Models in conjunction with palaeoclimate records to improve our understanding of the processes underlying climate variability and climate change, particularly in the context of biogeochemical cycles and ocean circulation.

Paulo NOBRE
Dr. Paulo Nobre is a senior researcher at the National Institute for Space Research, Coordinator of the development of the Brazilian Earth System Model - BESM and member of the WCRP Safe Landing Climate Lighthouse. He has experience in Geosciences, with an emphasis on meteorology and oceanography, working mainly on the following subjects: coupled ocean-cryosphere-biosphere-atmosphere modeling; Tropical Atlantic oceanography; sea ice; seasonal climate predictability and global climate change.

Anastasia ROMANOU
Dr. Anastasia (Natassa) Romanou is an adjunct Associate Professor of Applied Physics and Applied Mathematics and a NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies scientist. She works in climate science and in particular the influence and interdependence of the oceans and the Earth System. She teaches numerical modeling for climate applications at Columbia University.
