Heeyeon Jeon joined the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP) in October 2025 as a Science Intern within the Science and Innovation Department. She supports logistical aspects of the Explaining and Predicting Earth System Change and Digital Earth Light House Activities, including meeting coordination and report preparation, while also supporting the Global South Inclusion Task Team and contributing to other Secretariat initiatives.
She previously interned at the University of California, Berkeley, and also worked on climate-related research projects that applied AI-driven methods to prediction and environmental monitoring across diverse regions. Her projects included Indian monsoon onset forecasting as well as analyses spanning coral reef health, seasonal phenology, and large-scale climate variability.
Heeyeon is pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Atmospheric Sciences at Yonsei University and spent a year in Earth and Planetary Science at the UC Berkeley. Her academic background combines atmospheric science with data science and machine learning.
Her interests focus on connecting scientific insight to actionable adaptation for vulnerable communities. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, experiencing diverse cultures, and learning new languages; she is currently studying French and German. She aims to make a global impact through her work on climate policy and adaptation.
