Beatriz BALINO

Beatriz joined the Secretariat in January 2022.  She is not new to WCRP as she was science coordinator at the Coordination Office for Regional Activities (CORA) and is presently the Executive Director of CliC International Project Office. During 2022 Beatriz will share her time between CliC and the WCRP Secretariat, primarily to assist in the implementation of the WCRP Academy.

Beatriz is a marine biologist with a PhD from the University of Bergen (UiB) and carried out basic and applied research and modelling on fjord ecosystems and sea-ranching/aquaculture as well as science consultancy on coastal marine pollution. She has twenty-five years of experience as science adviser and research coordinator of multidisciplinary scientific programmes on marine, climate and global environmental research. At UiB she was adviser on marine research and leader of the University´s external funding and legal issues team. She was head of administration of BCCR and National Coordinator of the Norwegian Marine University Consortium. Her international experience includes serving as Assistant Executive Officer at the International Project Office of the Joint Global Flux Ocean Study (JGOFS) and as Deputy Director of Natural Sciences at the Secretariat of the International Geosphere-Biosphere Programme (IGBP).

Beatriz is originally from Uruguay and moved to Norway more than 30 years ago. She enjoys playing volleyball, skiing & hiking, and sharing an Asado” (gourmet pampas grassfed red meat grilled on wood charcoal) with friends.
